  8. This is a Gopher+ Client for windows 3.1.

  20. discover the bug fixes and enhencements.

  23. Requirements
  24.     
  25.     WINSOCK VERSION
  26.  
  27.     * MS Windows 3.1  (not tested with Windows 3.0)
  28.       Or Windows NT.
  29.     * Winsock DLL and TCP/IP+Packet support layer.
  30.     * See later for a list of Winsock tested versions.

  32.     PC NFS VERSION
  33.     
  34.     * MS Windows 3.1 (not tested with Windows 3.0)
  35.     * PC NFS Version 4 or version 5 (may work with other versions)
  36.           NOTE: you can also use the Winsock version with PC NFS 5.0
  37.                 and I suggest you do, as support for the native PC NFS
  38.                 version may be withdrawn at some point.

  41. Installation

  43.     Available for ANON FTP from lister.cc.ic.ac.uk

  45.     Change to directory pub/wingopher and collect one of the files
  46.  
  47.     hgopher2.4.zip   [Winsock Version]      (Binary mode required)
  48.     hngopher2.4.zip  [Sun PC NFS Version]   (Binary mode required)

  51.         Unzip the package you have chosen to get

  60.         Install these files in a directory of you choice. You should
  61.         make this the working directory when you run HGopher from
  62.         program manager.
  63.  
  64.         If you have an existing 2.2/2.3 hgopher.ini in your windows directory
  65.         HGopher 2.4 will use that. Else it will use the one in the working
  66.         directory. Old Version 1.0 and 1.1 ini files will cause HGopher 2.4
  67.         a major stress attack - get rid of them.
  68.  
  69.     You should also be able to get this product

  91. Troubleshooting
  92.     
  93.     WINSOCK VERSION
  94.  
  95.     The first time you start it hgopher may not be able to 
  96.     connect to a server or will probably connect to the wrong
  97.     server
  98.     Use the Options  menu to config it as follows
  99.  
  100.     Gopher Options
  101.     
  102.     Set the name and path of your favorite gopher server
  103.  
  104.     Select a directory for temp files that already exists
  105.  
  106.     Hit the save button to save these setting between sessions
  107.     Hit the OK button to use these setting now
  108.  
  109.     use "go home" from the command menu to get the main menu 
  110.     from your default gopher.

  112.     Network setup
  113.     
  114.     Set whether you are using DNS or the Vendor look up
  115.     service - If your vendor supports DNS lookup themselves
  116.     I suggest you use their service as the inbuilt DNS has
  117.     been shown not to work on some (most) Winsock versions. 
  118.  
  119.     If you are using the Winsock version with PC NFS you must
  120.         use the inbuilt DNS as Sun have not only not bothered to
  121.     implement DNS support but their own NIS does not function
  122.     with their Winsock either (at least at the release level
  123.     I have).
  124.     
  125.     If using the inbuilt DNS remember to use IP addresses and
  126.     not host names.

  128.         WINSOCK USERS PLEASE NOTE - The file WINSOCK.DLL is required by this
  129.         program - if you don't have that file you are not running winsock.
  130.         WINSOCK.DLL does not come with HGopher, it is part of the network
  131.         package you are using. WINSOCK.DLL are NOT interchangable you must
  132.         use the correct one for your network stack. Public domain/ Shareware
  133.         WINSOCK stacks are beginning to appear - tune to alt.winsock to stay
  134.         in touch with what is going on in this field.

  137.     PC NFS VERSION
  138.  
  139.     Make sure at least RTM is loaded before you start Windows
  140.

  175.   HGopher should work with any winsock complaint software. Previous versions
  176.   are known to work with the following.

  185.               like PCTCPAPI052: get_kernel_info: Bad net_dope
  186.                           structure 0x1ae01197, try getting a newer version
